What happens when a librarian and a book lover dream of a place with a gentle quietness?
They curate a place without deadlines or wake-up calls, traffic noise and the constant hum of other people’s lives?
A place that has been thoughtfully curated and packed with gorgeousness. A place where like-minded women read in companionable quietude. A place where they come together to share delicious nourishing food and conversation over dinner. An historic country manor house with many stories of its own – with comfy chairs to read in and the promise of rest and noiselessness.
It didn’t exist – so we wrote it into being.

We built Read Rest Retreat reading retreats because we both longed for somewhere quiet. Somewhere created and curated for readers, for those that love stillness, beautiful spaces and most of all their books.
Every detail of our reading retreats is chosen with care: from the welcome you receive, the whisper of the trees, the comfort of not needing to speak unless you wish to. Providing what you need before you know you need it. This is your retreat and we’re here to ensure that you get the opportunity you need to read and rest.
Read Rest Retreat reading retreats was created to make those dreams a reality to share with other likeminded women.
Claire – The Librarian, Bibliotherapist and Celebrated by the Literary World.
Claire has been, all her life, surrounded by books, story-lovers, and the hush of discovery. A lifelong guardian of library shelves and books.
She has always been immersed in the literary world, surrounded by books and the stories that they hold. And it’s this incredible depth of knowledge that Claire brings to the Read Rest Retreat reading retreats. She reads for the BBC and is part of the team that works on the Radio 2 Book Club. Her work as a librarian and bibliotherapist means she is able to provide you with personalised book prescriptions if you so wish, a reading list of recommended books just for you.
Claire is also the founder of The Authors Lounge. Dedicated to celebrating the literary world and loved by the literary world, Claire provides a platform for insightful author interviews, book reviews and empowers authors, helping them connect with a wider audience.
Nikki – The Literary Devotee and Retreat Curator.
Nikki’s joy lies in hosting guests – from the perfect reading chair with the squashiest of cushions to the seasonal crockery that perfectly compliments afternoon tea and cake. At Read Rest Retreats reading retreats, Nikki is your calm compass, your go to person, overseeing every detail on the retreat so that you can simply…read and rest.
A country girl through and through with a slight addiction to books, Nikki brings the heart of the guest experience to the Read Rest Retreat reading retreats. Her passion for classic novels, quiet mornings and country walks has shaped these retreats into havens for slow living.
